Cross Sectoral Supports

SPEAK OUT

We believe you, we stand with you, we will support you.”

Speak Out is an online anonymous reporting tool developed by the Psychological Counsellors in Higher Education Ireland which has been launched in 15 Higher Education Institutions since October 2021 and is available to all staff, students, and visitors to the institutions. Speak Out has been funded by the HEA and is supported by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Innovation and Science. The Speak Out tool has created a space for members of college communities to speak out about their experiences of bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, discrimination, hate crime, coercive behaviour/control, stalking, assault, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape, and to help direct those speaking out to find supports relevant to their experiences.

Moving Parts

Moving Parts is a student led animation project which draws attention to sexual consent, bystander intervention, and image-based sexual abuse from the perspective of third-level students.

15 animated short videos in English and Irish are freely available to students and staff throughout the HE sector.

They have been developed through an inter-institutional collaboration (IADT/UCC/NUIG) bringing together student animators, student survivors of sexual violence, student translators, and subject matter experts to provide a unique and accessible insight into these complex and pertinent issues.

The project was funded by the Higher Education Authority.

ConsentHub.ie – Active* Consent Online Learning Hub

The Consent Hub is the first integrated, publicly-available resource on sexual consent awareness and consent learning resources. Created by Active* Consent in partnership with the Government of Ireland, consenthub.ie contains a wealth of information and educational materials on consent for young people, educators, as well as parents & caregivers, including but not limited to:

  • Frequently asked questions about consent
  • A breakdown of Ireland’s consent law
  • Training information for educators to deliver Active* Consent workshops
  • Support services and helplines
  • Active* Consent’s research into young Irish people’s sexual behaviours, experiences of sexual violence and attitudes towards consent.

For higher education students, the programme available through the hub reflects the three levels of the Active* Consent online programme – a consent workshop based on the team’s research; an eLearning resource on consent, sexual violence and harassment; and ongoing social media engagement into topics such as a disclosure that links to students’ social media platforms.

For higher education staff, the three tiers of engagement available on the hub provides awareness-raising on definitions, skills, and student support practices; education for decision-makers and leaders on how they can support lasting culture change; and in-depth training for those involved in consent education, support for student disclosures, and policy implementation.
