Appointment of Dr Fiona Maloney as Director of the new National Tertiary Office

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) and SOLAS are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Fiona Maloney as Director of the National Tertiary Office following a call for Expressions of Interest process. The National Tertiary Office was established to develop new pathways through further education to higher education which is central to the government’s ambition for a unified tertiary system. Thirteen jointly designed courses are currently under development for co-delivery by the collaborating institutions and are due to commence this September.
The National Tertiary Office is jointly managed by the HEA and SOLAS and in her role as Director, Dr Maloney will coordinate, support, and monitor the implementation of the FEHE Pathways framework nationally.
Dr Maloney has extensive experience in the education sector having served as Director of Further Education and Training at the ETBI since 2017 where she successfully led the delivery of various complex national transformational projects across the ETB and FET networks. Dr Maloney holds a Doctorate in Education from Dublin City University and degrees from Trinity College Dublin, Maynooth University and University College Dublin.
Commenting on the appointment, CEO of the HEA, Dr Alan Wall, said

At the centre of our ambition for a unified tertiary sector is the student and as Director of the National Tertiary Office, Fiona will play a leading role in the project’s successful implementation to ensure that students benefit from these new progressive pathways commencing in September.”
Nessa White, Executive Director of Transformation at SOLAS added;
“We have been working closely with the HEA, higher education institutions and ETBs over the last few months to cultivate partnerships and develop proposals to expand and design new pathways from further education to higher education . It is a great pleasure to welcome Fiona as Director of the National Tertiary Office to build on this groundwork and to use her valuable experience in the sector to drive the programme forward nationally.”
