There have been several important developments in respect of national management of the impact of the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) .

An Taoiseach in a statement on 12th March indicated that Schools, colleges, and childcare facilities would close until March 29th.

The Department of Education and Skills issued a follow up statement here.

The Cabinet Committee on COVID-19 approved a National Action Plan on March 16th.

As the situation has progressed, many of our higher education institutions (HEIs) have continued to play important local regional and national roles, and this is to be commended. It is also obvious that HEIs, in the interests of staff and students, have continued to follow the national advice which has been issued by the Health Service Executive along with education specific advice from the Department of Education and Skills .
