ICT Courses - Proposals for Additional Undergraduate Places
HEA Invite Proposals for Provision of Additional Undergraduate Places on Core Level 8 Full-time ICT Courses
Proposals are now invited from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to increase provision of places on ICT courses leading to a level 8 qualification. Increasing the output of high-level graduates to meet the needs of the ICT industry is a key government objective as detailed in the ICT Action Skills Plan. The national ICT Skills Action Plan published in March 2014 sets out twenty-two actions to establish Ireland as a global leader in the availability of ICT talent. Increasing the output of high-level graduates is a key objective of the Plan, with a target to reach 74% of forecasted industry demand by 2018. Increasing the number of full-time undergraduate places on core ICT courses at Level 8 is required to achieve the 74% target.
The HEA has launched its third call for HEIs to increase provision of places on ICT courses leading to a level 8 qualification. This programme will incentive HEIs in achieving this national objective. HEIs are invited to propose methods to incentivise increased intake of new ICT students and also facilitate transfer and progression of existing students from other domains into ICT.
