Tom Boland to Step Down as CEO of the Higher Education Authority

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) announced today (11.03.16) that its Chief Executive Officer, Tom Boland, will step down in June 2016 once his current contract expires.  Mr. Boland has served as CEO of the HEA for the past 12 years.

Prior to joining the HEA, Mr. Boland was Director of Policy at the (then) Department of Education and Science, and played a central role in the development of policy and legislation focused on educational reform.

Commenting today, Dr. Stephen Kinsella, Acting Chair of the HEA, said: “Tom Boland has very capably led the HEA for the past 12 years.  We would like to thank him for his service and, in particular, acknowledge his work on implementing the National Strategy for Higher Education.

“Since its publication in 2011, the Strategy has proven to be a milestone document, setting out an ambitious new vision for higher education.  Tom has contributed in no small part to its successful implementation to date.”

Recruitment Process

The Public Appointments Service is managing the recruitment process for a new CEO for the Higher Education Authority, and the position has been advertised publicly today on www.publicjobs.ie.

It is anticipated that a recommendation on the new CEO will be submitted to the HEA Board for approval at the end of May.
